But if for some reason you're unable to eat certain food groups with essential vitamins, then you'll want to take supplements to compliment your diet. The Fundamental Four

Vitamin A: Vitamin A protects your hair follicles and helps maintain the right balance of natural oils. Without enough vitamin A you'll end up with dry and unhealthy hair. On the flip side, too much vitamin A can cause hair loss, so you want to make sure you're not getting too much. If you're eating vegetables like broccoli and carrots you're probably fine. If not, you should consider taking supplements to get you around 800mg per day.

Vitamin B: Vitamin B actually includes a number of different vitamins. Thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, and pyridoxine are among them, and they help to keep your hair follicles healthy. Many foods contain the B vitamins including fruits, vegetables, and even fish and meat. Again, if you're eating a balanced diet you should have no problem getting enough Vitamin B.

Vitamin C: Vitamin C is very important for hair health both because it keeps your hair follicles healthy and because it protects all of your cells. You should be getting 90mg per day of Vitamin C, and you likely are if you're eating citrus fruits on a daily basis.

Vitamin E: Like vitamin C, vitamin E also has antioxidant properties and keeps your hair follicles healthy and strong. Recommended daily doses are between 8 and 10mg, and you'll get vitamin E from a variety of foods. Nuts are particularly high in vitamin E.
